Biotechnology companies are one of the many places where extensive cancer research is being performed. Biotechnology encompasses many areas of scientific and medical research. For instance, researchers at a biotechnology company may study the genetic components associated with cancer. For example, they may study which genes are found to cause lung cancer. In turn, they may also study the possibility of introducing new genes that will fight that cancer, of create new cells to replace the ones that are known to cause cancer. Biotechnology companies may also study pharmaceuticals used in treating cancer. They would also be able to perform a study on the environmental causes of cancer. A single Biotechnology company could in essence, simultaneously, be finding both the cure and cause of cancer through different types of research. They have the ability to significantly effect peoples health and habits.

A biotechnology company may choose to focus on the environmental cause of cancer. For instance, they may try to access the impact of living next to a power line, on individual cells or organs in the human body. They may find that they can alter those cells to fight the effects of the power lines on the body. Yet, a biotechnology company may also perform research on new cells that can be introduced to fight the harmful effects of power lines on other cells, or to replace cells damaged by the power lines.
While a biotechnology company may not be able to prevent the cancers caused by power lines, they may be able to find a cure for that cancer. Lets say, for instance, that 243 people living within 3 miles of a power line, have been found to have a certain type of brain cancer. Biotechnology companies may want to study the cells as they become altered, in order to find a cure and possibly preventative medications. Because they are able to study cancer cells as they begin to mutate, they are able to better understand how they can prevent the cancer cells from forming. Because of the many resources available to biotechnology companies, they can even create cells that mimic cancer cells in humans, in a way that makes in unnecessary to study human subjects. Because of this technology, a biotechnology company is able to perform studies that they would not be able to perform on human subjects.
Biotechnology companies have the ability to perform research on the causes, treatment, cures and prevention of many diseases that afflict humans and animals. They can help us to have the knowledge to alter our lives, in a way that would help prevent us from getting cancer. In the event that we get cancer, they are able to find cures and medications that will extend our lifespan or cure the cancer. Because biotechnology companies can perform research beginning with the cause of cancer, all the way to the cure of cancer, they are a vital resource for everyone in the medical field and in the general population.
